Evidian takes over leadership in MULTIPOL research project

Cologne, 4 September 2008. Evidian, European market leader in Identity and Access Management ( IAM) announced the start of the ambitious European ITEA-2-research project MULTIPOL. In this project that has been initiated and promoted by IAM specialists, a consistent Policy Management is to be developped via multiple domains. Evidian has taken over leadership in this project and will be coordinating the activities of the ten participating European technology companies and universities within the next two years in order to achieve the project goals.

For Evidian, Policy Management  poses one of the biggest challenges in a global economy since many organizations are extending their business beyond  their traditional business areas.

Empoyees need to work, sign on to their accounts and get access to IT applications, that are operated from other business areas, subsidiaries, partners or suppliers, from anywhere. The multi-domain authentication that is needed for this has already been solved in several technologies. After a successful user authentication the next challenge is : how to determine to which ressources within a domain access should be permitted. Exactly this multi-domain authentication is in the focus of MULTIPOL.

In the framework of MULTIPOL, software modules that grant an efficient access control beyond domains with different security policies, are beeing developped These modules produce an across-the-domain authentication chain. When required, cooperation can take place in this chain in order to determine access rights on a confidential basis. Thereby the project refers to existing works regarding federated identities of the Liberty Alliance and other specifications. MULTIPOL findings should be available by mid-2010. By that time the Evidian-lead project will have supplied the multi-domain Policy Management research with more than 10 million euros. As the leading supplier of Identity-and Access Management solutions „Evidian is investing heavily in research and development“ says Erwin Schöndlinger, executive director at Evidian. „The MULTIPOL project is an good example of how we are integrating progressive research into trend-setting commercial products.“
